Ownage in Heritage Marathon/ 8:19 PM

I know i havent blogged for a long time, but i feel this is quite important, so i MUST post about it =)

Team Name : Goh Chun Teck . wtf.

Team Members : Goh Chun Teck =x Khrisen Jayaraj, Reuben, Ahmad

End result : 2nd overall . =)

Placing : 2/300. IMBA

Lets start at the beginning, when Mr Ron Tan announced that there would be a heritage hunt competition taking place in the mid julys, when we decided we should take part. Our team includes a PRO Navigator - Ahmad, Skillded Social King - Chun Teck, Lead Pacer / Morale Booster - ME, and Khrisen who wrote with a broken pen. haha

The day started with me being half an hour late which allowed us no time to prepare our route in the race. So we had to improvise, think and actually plan on our feet throughout the entrie damned thing. The race started with 600 ppl moving towards 1 exit, so we detoured and walked a deserted road out of Suntec. We almost got lost trying to find the first site, which was near the singapore river. We had to finish at 2.30 pm with the most correct answers. And also ending after results in an immediate disqualification.

We drank MILO and thought about how to bloody draw a singapore flag, name the colours, and write down what do the stars mean. It was freaking hard, and we actually had to call people to search on the internet for us.. =x After the first round, we slowly made our way towards the rest of the sites near us. Which was 6 in total i think. We finish at around 12? which meant we had 2 and a half hours before our time was up. We were lagging behind, and our morale was low. Something had to be done..

We decided against travelling to commonwealth, instead venturing to Jalan Besar, where we were more familiar with the roads and landmarks ( bloody cock shit ) Either way we met a team who only filled in 2 sites compared to our 6. WHICH MEANT WE COULD WIN! We quikly increased our pace, finishing 4 sites in an hour , thus giving us an hour and a half to do 2 more and get back. Since we were relatively close to city hall, we decided to have a short break, and have MACDONALDS along the boon keng MRT line.

At Macs, we had 3 McSpicy upsizes, and 1 fillet O fish up size. We finished our food in 15 mins, then had to back track to recover Chun Teck's wallet which he claimed he left in MAC. Which was a lie, when he told us it was in his bag all along =.= We also almost lost our answer book, which would end in our certain defeat. Luckily the Mc Staff found it for us.. haha

We tried to chiong to the next site, which on the map was about 2 cm away from us on map scale. What we didnt know was that it was 15 km away from us on the real scale. We walked, and walked, and walked.. and walked. We could never seem to be able to reach our destination. We asked several passerbys, which confirmed our fears. It was still a long way to go. The time was 1.50, and we were not going to make it. So, we decided to take a bus.

The bus ride brought us to our destination in 7 mins, and we chiong all the way up the freaking MT Vernon, all of us including Ahmad and Shane, ran as fast as humanely possible, up the slope. The site was no where to be found, and the map didnt offer anymore specific clues. We were doomed, if not for the malay team infront of us, who seemed to find the way. We folo-ed them, almost losing them, because of their tremendous speed. They can really run. Seriously. At1.57 we reached the site , quickly answering all questions, then proceeding to the next area, which was approximately 10 steps away.. =,= some luck atlast. We flew through the tasks, then flew down the mountain at INHUMANE speed, jus intime to catch the bus to Aljunied MRT station. Time was 2.09. We werent going to make it.

When we arrived at the MRT station, we sprinted up onto the platform, for the train doors to close on us. If we missed this we were doomed. Apparently we all managed to bundle into it, giving us a tiny glimmer of hope. Slowly, the MRT started for city hall, to the final climatic end of the marathon. We had done 12 sites, and confident we were able to altleast pull off a 5th place finish? As the competition was harder than it looked. Upon arriving at the City Hall, we ran to Suntec, arriving at 2.27, which meant we werent disqualified! =) But we were tired.,

The lucky draw cum prize presentation ceremony was held at 3.05pm. We had learnt that another VS team had done 14 sites?!?!?! WTH. We were very demoralised. We decided to see if we had luck in the lucky draw. Apparently not, as we didnt get a single voucher or hamper. In despair, we listened to the results. It started to rain, as drops splattered on our face, the host gave us the signal to move into the shelter. Then I heard it. ' Second place goes to Victoria School, Team GOH CHUN TECK!!!' I dropped my bags and turned around. Chun Teck was hysteric, pratically dancing in the rain. Khrisen and I got perma-stuned, seemingly unable to move. Ahmad could only clutch his bag in disbelief. We had gotten 2nd! We got ushered up onto the stage, had our pictures taken, and recieved a sum of $800 for the whole team!.

As Ahmad put it afterwards, impossible is nothing, and we sure did nothing.

Through the dew-dipped trees,
Pass stones and rocks,
to fill the dark with the light,
to right those that were wronged,
to fulfill the destiny past foretold,
to play and to win with pride,
